Improved App Adaptivity for Larger Screens

Android 16 Beta 1 is mainly built to enhance tablets and foldables apps. Since some apps were not optimised for bigger screens, poor orientation and unresizable windows issues were arising.

Now with this beta update apps will be forced to resize and adapt in a certain way. Even if developers want to switch screen orientation into portrait style on larger screens, They can’t! Also developers can opt out from this but soon the option to opt out will be removed.

Well, for now if you want to experience this enhancement in Games, you won’t be able to!

By this move it clearly shows Google’s dedication on improving users tablets and larger devices experience. So this enhancement will be visible on all the devices running on Android 16.

Live Updates for Ongoing Notifications

Furthermore, Android 16 Beta 1 comes with a new feature for the current updates of the tasks. This feature is named “Live Updates”.

It will help developers to let users see the current activities status on Android just like iOS. For example; users will get a prominent ping for food delivery, using maps for navigation and more!

This feature will work like notifications are shown in iOS devices, even on the lock screen too. This enhancement will help users to see important notifications rather than passing them as an ordinary notification. Developers will be able to customize notification icons and colors depending on various tasks.

This advancement will play a crucial role to enhance real-time notifications as per users perspective. This beta update will also let 3rd party developers to integrate Live Updates into their apps.

Advanced Video Codec & Predictive Back Gesture

In this beta 1 update Android 16 will support Samsung’s Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec. Samsung’s APV codec let users record pro level video as well editing. Here are some Key features that it include:

  • Support for 4K, 8K resolutions, and HDR10 content.

Enhanced Predictive Back Gesture Feature

Moreover, Android 16 Beta 1 improves predictive back gesture feature with no boundaries as in android 15 it was accessible on system apps only. Now It works with third-party apps and users will see the animation if they use three-button navigation.

How to Install Android 16 Beta 1

From pixel 6 to the recently launched pixel devices, Android 16 Beta 1 is accessible. Users can head over updates via Settings > System > Software updates if they are already using Android 16 Developer Preview.

Also if you want to settle for a stable version joining its Beta program will help you. Make sure you are comfortable with the bugs and glitches as it’s in the beta phase.

If you are a developer then you can test Android 16 on emulators via Android Studio.
