OpenAI Introduces Shopping Research in ChatGPT With Helpful Features

OpenAI released this tool for Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users, and it also works inside ChatGPT Pulse for Pro members. The tool helps people find relevant products using a visual interface that feels easy and friendly.

Users can activate the tool by clicking the small plus icon under the prompt box or by asking any shopping question, which turns on the feature automatically.

The tool then opens a large window that asks simple questions about the product, such as size, color, budget, or style needs. These questions help the AI understand the user’s exact requirements before showing possible options.

The system uses a trained version of the GPT-5 mini model. This model learns from trusted online sources and focuses strongly on real user experiences.

It considers reviews from places like Reddit more useful than paid marketing or sponsored product pages.

The model studies these posts to create helpful suggestions without pushing specific websites. OpenAI said it does not give priority to any store links, and it does not share chat details with retailers. It only collects the needed information to show relevant search results.

The tool then creates a personalised product list after analysing all answers. It shows product images, short descriptions, and direct links to merchant sites. Users can mark items as interested or not interested, which helps the tool refine the list further.

The model performs well in detail-heavy categories such as electronics, beauty, home, garden, kitchen, appliances, and outdoor items. It can take a few minutes to create very detailed lists, especially when the request is very specific or unusual.

For simple questions, like checking prices or hardware specs, OpenAI suggests using the regular ChatGPT search because it delivers quicker results.

OpenAI Introduces Shopping Research in ChatGPT During Rising Competition

OpenAI launched this shopping tool as competition grows fast in the AI market. Google recently introduced new shopping features in Gemini and Search. Companies like Perplexity AI are also trying to become important shopping partners for users.

OpenAI wants this tool to attract more users and build strong trust in the platform. The company has also launched group chats, a free tool for teachers, and a built-in web browser recently.

OpenAI is not trying to earn money from this tool. It does not use affiliate links or track sales for commission. It offers nearly unlimited usage until January for both free and paid users. The tool is separate from ChatGPT’s in-chat checkout feature, which uses Stripe and only works for selected US merchants.

OpenAI warns that product details like price or availability may not always be correct because online information changes quickly. They recommend visiting merchant sites for the most accurate details.

OpenAI Introduces Shopping Research in ChatGPT to make online shopping simple, honest, and helpful for everyone. The tool uses clear questions, trusted reviews, and smart product sorting to support users with better buying decisions.

It avoids paid influence and focuses on real user experiences. It offers fast discovery, clean design, and strong guidance during the holiday season. It aims to create a better shopping journey for all users.
